At CTS, we’re training tomorrow’s bridgebuilders—spiritual leaders empowered to connect congregations and communities. And forming leaders like this requires courage, creativity, and conviction. Fortunately, that spirit has long been part of who we are.
Our legacy of leadership is evident in the complementary work of the School of Theology and the School of Counseling, and in our commitment to expanding scholarship resources so that students from diverse backgrounds can pursue theological education. It’s reflected in the creation of the nation’s first PhD program in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric—anchored by an endowed chair and designed to form practitioner–scholars who will preserve, deepen, and advance one of the most vital traditions in American preaching. Above all, it’s embodied in the intellectual rigor and care cultivated by our extraordinary faculty, who prepare students to lead communities of faith who serve with wisdom, compassion, and a deep commitment to justice, healing, and wholeness.
CTS is committed to finding new ways to create space and opportunities where people can truly learn from one another, improve their knowledge of the wider world, and understand how they can inspire hope and healing closer to home. Your support will help sustain one of the most influential traditions in American preaching, foster faculty development and expand critical student scholarship support for generations to come.
Living in a world where people are seeking a source of truth in so many different places, our commitment to building faithful leaders is essential. Now more than ever, our world needs leaders whose lives are shaped by faith, theological inquiry, and a commitment to justice, healing, and the common good. Leaders who are called to serve congregations, communities, and the world with wisdom, humility, and hope.
To continue training faithful leaders for churches and communities, as well as meeting the growing need for more mental health therapists, we established two distinct schools that work in harmony: our School of Theology and School of Counseling. To elevate African American preaching and provide scholars with an unprecedented opportunity to explore the robust field of African American homiletics, we created the nation’s first PhD program in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric. To foster deeper thinking and rigorous academic work, we have created opportunities for students across disciplines to learn from one another, engage difficult questions, and wrestle with new ideas together, preparing them to bring God's love, justice, and liberation to a complex and changing world.
The world needs bold, compassionate, faith-rooted leaders — and CTS has been forming them for more than a century. Your gift supports the scholarships, faculty, and programs that make it possible for the next generation of spiritual leaders to rise up and serve the communities that need them most. Every gift moves us forward.
